Over the last decades, Ukrainian fashion has become a full-fledged component of the creative industry. Realizing the need for a systematic description of this phenomenon as an industry, fashion historian and critic Zoya Zvinyatskovskaya together with journalist and editor of fashion department of Harper’s Bazaar Ukraine Anton Yeremenko have published Fashion Directory of Ukraine.

Fashion Directory of Ukraine is the first book about people creating fashion industry in Ukraine. Project implementation took about six months. During this time, the authors of the book recorded 100 hours of interviews with 92 representatives of different movements of the Ukrainian fashion industry: designers, stylists, photographers, retailers and others.

The main goal of the book is to provide a holistic view of Ukrainian fashion as an established creative industry. “In recent years, Ukrainian fashion has ceased to be a local phenomenon, individual victories have become a system, so we decided to create a book, demonstrate this,” said Anton Yeremenko, editor of fashion department of Harper’s Bazaar Ukraine.

“Impartiality and attention to the facts were main conditions of our work. It was necessary to bring a multitude of ideas about the domestic fashion industry into a system that meets the criteria of global fashion. The Ukrainian fashion industry is a dynamic and large-scale phenomenon, and our goal was to show it comprehensively, to give a holistic picture,” said Zoya Zvinyatskovskaya, fashion historian and critic.

Interviews with those who develop fashion in Ukraine as a full-fledged creative industry became the basis of the book comprising 192 pages. Design and cover were done by Gleb Mukha. Most of the portraits of the book’s heroes are by photographer Julia Kraist.

Fashion Directory of Ukraine is published in two languages, Ukrainian and English. In addition to printed copies, a separate website has been created where the book materials will be freely available from 28 October.

Fashion Directory of Ukraine was created with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
