On 8 May Ukrainians celebrate Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is one of the most touching holidays, as each of us from childhood to final days carries a unique image in his soul — the image of mother, gentle, understanding, wise and selflessly loving, no matter what.

We sincerely congratulate dear mothers on their holiday. Let your endless care, patience, love and devotion resonate in the souls of children.

The first official celebration of Mother’s Day took place in Virginia, USA. It was initiated in 1908 by Anna Jarvis who prematurely lost her mother and had the idea of devoting one day a year to honoring mothers. With such a request, she wrote letters to state institutions and eminent persons. In 1910, the state of Virginia first recognized Mother’s Day as an official holiday.

In many countries, Mother’s Day is celebrated on May 13. In Ukraine, it is celebrated on the second Sunday in May in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 489/99 dated 10 May 1999.
